A Wee Dram of Scotland
by Gerrit Sterk
About Me
Hi! My name is Gerrit, and this past summer I took an adventure of a lifetime. In my first ever trip outside of the United States, I took a leap into the unknown (and a very large one at that!) over the Atlantic Ocean. I was unsure of what to expect, how things would turn out, and if the trip would be worthwhile. What I learned from this experience was that I wanted to return; not just to Scotland, but to return and explore all of the greatness that covers this world!
Backstory
Who am I?
I am a 25 year old public school teacher from the great state of Washington, where the legendary Rick Steves also resides! When I am not teaching during the school year, I work at a local berry farm during the summers (where I eat my fill of raspberries and blueberries)!
Why Rick Steve's Tours?
Growing up as a child, my Mom and I would regularly watch Rick Steves and his show on PBS, and later on YouTube, living vicariously through him, and one day yearning to go and visit all of the illustrious places that he showcased. It seemed natural to choose his company to go on a tour!
Why Scotland?
When deciding where to go, I honed in on Scotland. I chose Scotland given my Mom's side of the family stems from there. That said, I wanted to see the history and story of those that came before me, told from an in-person perspective!
